#3 Way Teens Relieve Stress: Talking It Out Via Tech

April 9, 2009 at 8:25 am 1 comment

From MTV Sticky as reported by Ypulse:

3. Talk To Me. Third is talking to friends (not face to face). The explosion in the new tools available to connect to friends has seemingly come at just the right time for a generation seeking moral support. That said, it is existing friends that provide the most support, rather than strangers, the only nation likely to turn to help from online strangers in significant numbers are the Chinese.

Teens are eager to talk through their issues by communicating with friends through the tools of technology — we agree!  PlumbBrain will provide a new set of communicative tools to tweens and teens not available anywhere else.

I’ve facilitated a number of youth research studies, opinion polls and surveys over the past decade and one important point I hear youth make consistently is how they feel most adults are not going to show up for them nor take them seriously when they need help on the multitude of issues they face daily.

So the increase in tech based and or social media tools for them to use to value and validate ideas, thoughts and or solve issues themselves with their peers is simply another method by which they can share the experience of their growing up years and all that comes with that in a variety of ways.

In my opinion we as adults need to make sure that we’re providing as many opportunities to open up dialog with the youth in our lives either face to face and/or by actively participating with them through their favored tech channels.

Additionally, by committing to support those companies and organizations providing responsible online content for our kids access can go a long way to helping too.
